Emily Higgins
MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER
About Emily Higgins
Emily was deeply inspired by the Athlos model, which emphasizes movement in the classroom and fosters a loving, safe, and caring environment for students.
Before joining Athlos, Emily moved from the Twin Cities to South Dakota for college. She student-taught and taught within the same district for two years, and later worked as a multilingual (ML) teacher in Sioux Falls for two years. In 2024, she will embark on her first year in a general education classroom.
Leveraging her strong patience and persistence, Emily is dedicated to setting high expectations for her students while offering unwavering support. Ultimately, her goal as an educator is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of her students, fostering their growth as compassionate and well-rounded individuals. “I want them to grow in every aspect of their wellbeing,” Emily said.
Favorite Performance Character Trait:
Integrity, Creativity & Energy/Zest
Emily picked Integrity as one of her favorite Performance Character traits because, as kids get older, they have more and more opportunities to learn about what integrity means to them. “Whether it’s being asked to give their friend answers on a homework assignment or use AI to write their paper in ELA, our kids have no shortage of opportunities to learn what it means to do the right thing.”
She also picked Energy because she is a teacher who thrives and feeds off the energy in a room, and she makes an effort to always add a level of zest to any room she walks into.
Emily’s final favorite trait is Creativity because she knows the importance of letting your imagination fly. “That is my goal in my classes, to nurture the imagination of my students.”
