Mr. Jourdan LaBeau
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER
About Mr. LaBeau
Jourdan LaBeau earned his bachelors degree in social studies education from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan in 2011. He worked the next year as an interventionist for at-risk students at a rural school in Morrice, Michigan. For the past seven years, he has taught technology, reading intervention, and social studies at Rifle Middle School in Rifle, Colorado. At Rifle Middle, he served as the head football, boys basketball, girls basketball, and track and field coach.
LaBeau feels that his best quality as a teacher is that he considers his students part of his family. “I want to do what works best for them,” he said. If that means changing a lesson in the middle, staying at school late or getting there early to work with kids outside of class time, watching their performances, games, or concerts after school, whatever it takes to connect and build a relationship of trust and encouragement.”
Favorite Performance Character Trait: Social Intelligence
“The Athlos Performance Character trait that resonates with me the most is social intelligence, because at the end of the day, I want kids to know that I care about them, and am fighting for them to be successful people no matter what,” LeBeau said. “The only way to be sure of that is to have a strong relationship based on trust.”
